Anupam’s Wild Coast, located on Langford Road, vouches for the difference between eateries that have profit uppermost on their mind and those that have started to truly serve foodies the authentic fare.

Ravi Shetty, the owner and his son Nachiketh Shetty, the third generation of the Kundapur Shetty family, who started Anupam’s Wild Coast, a little more than a year ago, revel in getting their customers to gorge on their lip-smacking dishes.

Talking about how he struck upon the idea, Ravi Shetty says, that he grew up watching his mother Prabhavathi Shetty make ‘Chicken ghee roast’, ‘Kane ravafry’ , ‘Prawn ghee roast’, ‘Chicken kundapur and ‘Chicken white kurma’ in their home. “Every ingredient has been invented by my mother. The ‘masala’ is homemade because she never believed in buying anything from outside. Even to this day, we don’t procure any of the ‘masalas’ from outside. This is also one of the reasons why our dishes have a strong flavour to it. You will never find this mix anywhere,” promises Ravi.

The menu has the choicest of coastal cuisine and an interesting variety in fish, prawn and mutton dishes. The signature dishes include ghee roast in chicken, squid, prawn, crab and paneer. “My mother’s ‘Chicken Ghee roast’, ‘Prawn ghee roast’, ‘Anjal tawa fry’ and ‘Pomfret masala fry’ was popular in our home and now the same has found way into our menu. We have retained the original taste and haven’t changed the character of the dish,” adds Ravi. He says that ghee roast is best paired with ‘neer dosa’ and ‘appam’. “You can literally feel the flavour of the ghee roast when paired with ‘appam’. People who don’t really like bones also go in for prawn ghee roast,” he says.

The fish fry is nothing like what you get in other restaurants. “The fish is first marinated in our own ‘masala’. The fish is fried is such way that the masala is retained without losing the flavour,” he adds. For those who love their ‘thali’, there is ‘chicken’, ‘fish’ and vegetarian. There’s also a choice when it comes to ‘biryani’.

The desserts are a treat in itself. “We have brought in an interesting variety in the dessert section. The ‘Ragimanni’ and caramel custard is made in-house. We ensure that there is a twist to every dish,” concludes Ravi. Anupam’s Wild Coast is located at No 1, Cornwell Street, Langford Garden, Shantinagar. For details, call 9945004353.
