With less than a year to go for Assembly elections, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), following the instructions by the Election Commission of India (ECI), will soon set the process in motion to enrol the citizens in voters' list.

Starting October 31, the Palike will accept applications for enrolling, filing objections or removal of names in the electoral rolls, in all 198 ward offices and 115 Bangalore-One and Sakala centres. The enrolment process will continue till November 30. Apart from this, the citizens can also enrol their names online by visiting www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in

The Palike will conduct special outreach programme to enrol young voters. "Those who have completed 18 years, as on January 31, 2017, will be eligible for voting. We will conduct special drives to attract first-time voters in colleges and other parts of the city to encourage voting," said BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad. He said that 7,000 polling stations will be opened in the city. For the first time in three years, the names of voters, who are dead, have been deleted from the list.

"There were about 88,308 entries in the list. The names were removed after verifying death certificates. A total of 1,87, 015 voters have been included in the roll, this year. We have assigned booth-level officers and joint commissioners in all zones to clean up the voters' list by helping us to delete the names of the dead voters and enrol the new voters," he added.
