Two held in connection with cattle farmer's killing

The Alwar police arrested two persons in connection with the killing of cattle farmer Ummar Mohammad Khan.

Rahul Prakash, Superintendent of Police, Alwar, confirmed the arrests. "Bhagwan Singh Gurjar alias Kala and Ramveer Gurjar, both residents of Markapur area, were arrested on Monday night. We are looking for more accused," he said. Police, however, refused to comment if the killers were cow vigilantes, robbers or gunmen.

Thirty-five-year-old Ummar's body was found near railways tracks on Friday. His family alleged that he was shot dead by cow vigilantes when he was ferrying cattle in a vehicle.

The Alwar Police have also lodged a case of cow smuggling against Ummar Khan, and two others - Tahir Khan and Javed. The police had on November 10 seized an abandoned pick-up truck carrying six cows and registered a case under the Rajasthan Bovine Act, which prohibits cattle slaughter and regulates migration and export of the animals.

Meanwhile, Ummar's uncle who is in Jaipur, demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for his family, and Rs 25 lakh for the kin of Tahir Khan who sustained bullet injuries in the November 10 incident. "Ummar was the only bread-winner. He has eight children. The government should compensate his family without delay," Ummar's uncle Illiyas said.
