SLN Coffee, a coffee producer and retailer from the heartland of coffee in India, Kodagu, has marked an entry into the instant coffee market with the launch of Levista. It is vying a spot in the top three companies in the category, alongside Bru and Sunrise.
The Rs 800-crore company, has launched three blends under Levista, in Bengaluru and Chennai, and hopes to capture a large part of the market in North India, where instant coffee is rapidly growing. The brand is estimated contirbute to about 10% of the company's total turnover, which currently stands at 60% contribution from exports.
The company is aiming Rs 100 crore revenues from Levista in the next three years, and is further improving its standing in the coffee market with the launch of its cafe in Kushalanagar. SLN Coffee MD N Sathappa said, "The cafe should be ready by March 2018. Post this launch, we will explore options of expanding the brand."
The company is also working on a plan to develop and launch green coffee in the Indian market. SLN Coffee MD N Vishwanathan said, "Currently, we are in the R&D stage, working on getting the blend right. We expect to launch it in the next three years or sooner." Green coffee, as a health-trend is picking up extensively in the West, and has been seen to influence trends here as well.
