Former corporator M C Chikkanna had filed a defamation case against Somashekar in 2009. Chikkanna had alleged that Somashekar produced a fake caste certificate to get a gas agency that was reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. Following this, Somashekar had used abusive words against Chikkanna in a press conference. Later, Chikkanna had filed a defamation case against Somashekar.
The hearing was on December 4. As the MLA and his advocate failed to attend the court, a non-bailable warrant was issued against the MLA. The case has been adjourned to February, 2, 2018.
