Create cycle lanes with white-topping, DULT to BBMP

The Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) has written to the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) to create cycle lanes on the roads where white-topping is underway.  

The BBMP already has cycle lanes on the TenderSURE footpaths, though it is hardly used.

The DULT letter read: "The BBMP has already taken up the white topping work on various roads in the city. Once the white-topping is completed, the construction of a dedicated bicycle track will become difficult for any agency to take up. So the BBMP is requested to construct the dedicated bicycle tracks on all the roads where the white-topping is going on."

On the lines of Mysuru's 'Trin Trin' project under the public bicycle sharing (PBS) initiative, the DULT plans to create cycle lanes in different phases. The first phase covers localities like MG Road, Vidhana Soudha, Indiranagar, Banaswadi, HRBR Layout, HBR Layout and Kacharakanahalli.

"We have received the letter from DULT. The BBMP is carrying out the white-topping of the roads in the city. The BBMP and the DULT will discuss and decide on the cycle lanes." a BBMP official said.

The letter also states that the co-operation between BBMP and DULT will ensure good cycle lanes for the public.
