Alert railway officials averted a disaster by identifying gas leakage in a tanker at the Sakleshpur railway station on Tuesday morning.

Quick measures were taken when they found a gas tanker, that was being transported by rail from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) to Bengaluru, was leaking.

The officials alerted the higher authorities and with the help of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), measures were taken to plug the leakage.

According to sources, 40 gas tankers reached the railway station at around 3.45 am on Tuesday and one of them was found to be leaking. The Fire and Emergency Services department was alerted, who sprayed water to check the leak. The MRPL officials, who reached the spot at 8.30 am, plugged the leakage.

The tanker was detached and the other portion of the train continued its journey towards Bengaluru.
