Vehicle riders are made to face a Herculean task of finding suitable parking facilities in town.

Traffic jams have become a frequent scene and the lack of parking lots have added to the problem.

While some riders park their vehicles on the road sides, the owners of the shops park their vehicles in the middle of the road from morning to evening, consuming a lot of space on both sides of the roads.

Violation

A citizen said, "Earlier, a few roads were made one-way. But, the vehicle riders wouldn't care. The officials of the department, who are responsible for the enforcement of the rules, too are silent."

Monday, the day of the weekly shandy, is the most crowded day of the week. The streets are packed with vehicles as well as people. The vehicle users do not follow traffic rules neither on C K Subbaiah Road nor on Club road even though the roads are one-way.

Haphazard parking

"People on Thyagaraja Road and MG Road park their vehicles in a haphazard way, seriously obstructing the movement of traffic," a local resident said.

Parking vehicles in front of hardware shops to load and unload the items is a common scene. Undisciplined parking can be witnessed at the private bus stand as well.

"From last year, home guards are deployed to observe the vehicle parking as well as traffic movements. However, they will are not present on the roads. The traffic police too are not to be seen in the afternoons," a citizen complained.

Town Panchayat president Vijayalakshmi Suresh said that a proposal towards a project worth Rs three crore for construction of a cellar in the market building has been sent to the municipal administration for approval.
