Enrol on electoral roll until early Feb; final list a week later

Last Updated 20 December 2017, 19:22 IST
All eligible voters can enrol on the electoral roll until the first week of February, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad, the electoral officer for Bengaluru, has said.

The civic body will take a week to verify the  applications, while the final voters' list will be published on  February 15, he added.  The draft electoral roll was published on November 30 and a month's time was given for filing objections and making revisions.

In order to make the process of election smoother, polling booths having more than 1,400 voters will be regularised and new polling booths set up. A total of 575 new polling booths are coming up. Polling officers will undertake a special campaign to encourage enrolment, Prasad said.

The commissioner warned of criminal action against officials not attending the poll training programme. As many as 3,415 out of 5,518 election duty officers have skipped the training, he added.

The BBMP chief made it clear that  people having voters' cards were not eligible to vote unless their names were  on the electoral roll.
