Govt imposes anti-dumping duty on 98 items imported from China

The government has imposed anti-dumping duty on 98 products imported from China, alongside taking steps to reduce trade deficit with the neighbouring country.

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry C R Chaudhary said this in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.

The items on which anti-dumping duty was imposed on December 27 included steel and other metal products, vitamin A and C, certain chemicals, electrical and electronics items.

He said India and China have singed a five-year development programme for economic and trade cooperation in order to lay down a medium term roadmap for promoting balanced and sustainable development of economic and trade relations between China and India on the principle of equality and mutual benefit.

India's trade deficit with China has been at $36.73 billion so far this financial year.

"Increasing trade deficit with China can be attributed primarily to the fact that Chinese exports to India rely strongly on manufactured items to meet the demand of fast expanding sectors like telecom and power," the minister said.
