Merchants at Natekal observed a bandh on Monday against the vandalisation of two shops and a masjid late Sunday on night.
They blocked the road and demanded stern action against Yathiraj (23), a resident of Enekal in Sullia and Nithin (25), of Beedigudee, both workers employed by Manjunath Alva, owner of a water supply unit.
They withdrew the protest after assurance of stern action against suspects by the police.
Based on the CCTV footage, the Konaje Police arrested Yathiraj and Nithin for plotting communal disturbances.
They were drunk when they indulged in vandalisation, said the police.
The duo reportedly damaged two refrigerators at a bakery owned by Abdul Razak at Natekal Junction, besides damaging a beef stall owned by Hamza and lights at a masjid at Natekal late night on Sunday.
They fled the spot after the police reached there.
