Fog has once again impacted operations at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

Fifteen IndiGo flights – seven arrivals and eight departures – were cancelled due to the fog that engulfed the airport for four hours at dawn.

The fog led to the suspension of operations between 4.44 am and 8.25 am.

At least 63 flights were delayed, out of which 54 were arrivals. Also, eight flights were diverted – four each to Hyderabad and Chennai.

Usually, fog-related delays in departures exceed the delays in arrivals as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has set up lesser visibility requirements for landings than take off.

The regulator has set the runway visual range (RVR) at 400 m for flights taking off from an airport and 550 m for those landing.

In winter of the last financial year, the operations were hit on 17 days.

Usually, fog takes over the city in the winter, from November until late February.

But this winter, in a span of just two months, flight services have been hit on 11 days.
