Various farmers' organisations from the state on Thursday appealed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to fix minimum support price (MSP) at levels 50% more than the average cost of production, as recommended by the M S Swaminathan committee.

They have also sought the government to stop extending any subsidies to the farmers.

Around 15 farmers' organisations met Siddaramaiah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, and submitted a list of 40 odd demands as part of the pre-budget consultation meetings, which began on Thursday.

While stressing that the Rs 50,000 crop loan waiver was insufficient, the farmers have demanded that the government fix the MSP as per the committee report, so that they don't incur losses and resort to further borrowings.

They have urged the government to make 65% budgetary allocation to the rural sector.
