The BJP MLA from Karkala V Sunil Kumar has created a controvery by saying that "the   upcoming Legislative Assembly elections in Bantwal constituency is not between Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai and the BJP candidate Rajesh Nayak. It is to decide whether the voters need Rama or Allah."

Kumar said this at 'Gramadedege BJP Nadige' programme at Kalladka on Monday night.

On Tuesday, Kumar, who is also the chief whip of the Opposition in Legislative Assembly, said that he is committed to his statement.

"Ramanath Rai (who is Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister) recently had clearly stated that he had won the elections six times with the blessings of the Allah. The statement has insulted the Hindus of Bantwal constituency. There is a need to answer to this insult. I will issue my statement in another 10 meetings. I would not have raised the issue had Rai said that he needs the support of all. It was not right on his part to say that he had won the election because of one particular community," the BJP leader said.
