Congress MLA from Shanthinagar, N A Haris, on Monday apologised for the incident wherein his son Mohammed Haris Nalapad assaulted a youth at a restaurant on Saturday evening.

"In view of Saturday night's unfortunate incident involving my son and Vidhvant (sic), I, N A Harris, would like to apologise to Vidhvant, his parents (again) and the citizens of Bangalore," he said in a media statement.

He said he had served the constituency with humility for the past 10 years and that the law would be the same for all, including his son.

Haris took exception to the Opposition and a section of the media playing up the issue. "I again strongly emphasise that the law is the same for all of us and we will adhere to the investigation process and give our 100% cooperation," he added.

An embarrassed Congress on Sunday expelled Nalapad,  its youth general secretary for  Bengaluru city,  for six years.
