Puttannaiah to be laid to rest today sans religious rituals

Farmers' leader and Melkote MLA K S Puttannaiah, who passed away arrest on Sunday, will be laid to rest amid rendition of farmers' songs at his native Kyathanahalli at 10.30 am on Thursday. No religious rituals will be held, family sources said.

Thousands of farmers from all the districts of the state will carry soil from their respective places to be used during the funeral as a mark of respect to the leader. Swaraj India Party president Yogendra Yadav and farmers' leader Rakesh Tikayit from North India will attend the ceremony.

The funeral procession will begin at 6 am from JSS University at Bannimantap in Mysuru, where the mortal remains of Puttannaiah are kept. It will reach Kyathanahalli via Srirangapatna and Pandavapura town. The body will be kept for public viewing from 7.30 am to 10.30 am at Visvesvaraya stadium. Later, Puttannaiah will be laid to rest at his farm (behind the rice mill).

According to a press release from Hasiru Sene Samiti, tributes will be paid to the leader by enacting the play 'Thithi bidi Sasi nadi' on February 28.
