Stir demanding irrigation projects stressed

Last Updated 21 February 2018, 18:00 IST

Farmer leader Gurushanthappa said that the farmers should carry out an apolitical stir demanding irrigation projects in Chikkamagaluru.

Speaking at a meeting on integrated irrigation projects meeting organised by the Karagada Etha Neeravari Horata Samithi here on Wednesday, he said, "Rainfall has been declining over the years in the district. The government should be pressurised to take up irrigation projects in the district to irrigate vast farmland."

Instead of depending on the government, the farmers themselves should remove silt from the lakes in the village, thus help in protecting the water sources.

Farmer leader Mahadi Mane Satish said, "The elected representatives in the district lack far-sightedness. As a result, the people face a shortage of water. There is a need to make water flow from Hebbe waterfalls to Ayyanakere."
