A constable on duty attached to KR Puram traffic police station was assaulted by a lorry driver for questioning him over honking unnecessarily on Wednesday.

The KR Puram police have arrested three people including the driver Sreenivas, his father Shivu and an associate Santhosh for assaulting constable Sampath.

Sreenivas at around 9 am, driving a sand lorry, came from the Basavanapura Road and stopped at the Bhattarahalli Junction as the signal turned red. But he started honking continuously, the police said.

When constable Sampath questioned Sreenivas about this, he shoved away Sampath and assaulted him. He then called his father and Santhosh, who rushed to the spot and started recording the constable's movements on the phone, the police said.

Sampath then called for additional backup and a team of policemen reached the spot and all the three were arrested, the police said.

A case of assault and obstructing a public servant while on duty has been registered. Further investigations are underway.
