The BJP has expelled its member B S Chaitrashree from the party, citing disobedience as reason.

Chaitrashree is the president of the Zilla Panchayat.

In a letter, BJP state unit general secretary N Ravikumar said that Chaitrashree has been expelled from primary membership of the party for a period of six years.

"As per an internal agreement, Chaitrashree was supposed to tender her resignation to the post of Zilla Panchayat president after completion of 20 months in the post. But, by not doing the same, she has broken the agreement and shown disobedience to the instructions of the senior leaders of the party. This gesture of hers has compelled the party to expel her," a BJP member said.

"As per the Panchayat Raj regulations, there is no scope for moving a no-confidence motion till the completion of the tenure of 30 months. Senior leaders and core committee members of the party would take a decision to move no-confidence motion against Chaitrashree," he said.

The Chikkamagaluru Zilla Panchayat has 19 members from the BJP, 12 from the Congress and two from the JD(S).
