The Supreme Court on Friday declined to entertain a plea challenging the maximum age of 25 years fixed for General Category candidates in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2018.

A bench of Justices S A Bobde and L Nageswara Rao refused to consider the plea made by a group of students against the fixing of maximum age by the CBSE for those appearing in the test conducted for admission to the MBBS course in medical colleges across the country.

The court questioned the petitioners as to why they did not approach the high court against the decision.

On this, the petitioner decided to withdraw their petition. They sought  a direction to raise the maximum age for the general category candidates.

The CBSE had issued a notification on February 9 fixing the minimum age of 17 and maximum of 25 years for the candidates appearing in the NEET- 2018.
