Ayanur to fight for pension facilities

Last Updated 24 February 2018, 18:34 IST

Graduate constituency candidate Ayanur Manjunath said that he would fight for pension facilities to all irrespective of whether the job holders joined service before or after 2006.

Speaking to reporters, he said that the state government is now considering contributory pension in place of a defined pension. According to the Supreme Court verdict, the pension is not offered as alms but as deferred wages and is the right of pension holders. He added that there is a need to fight for justice, especially for those who have joined service after 2006.

He demanded that guest lecturers at government colleges and also private educational institutions should be offered justified wages and should be given required facilities similar to those who are on a permanent payroll. There should be job security for guest lecturers. He added that there is no requirement to pay professional tax for an amount up to Rs 15,000. However, most guest lecturers are compelled to pay the tax in the state with their meagre wages. As many as 13,500 guest lecturers are working in various government colleges from the year 2016-17. He alleged that the state government has violated the UGC rules in the appointment of 2,160 assistant professors for the year 2017-18. The recruitment process involves massive corruption.

He demanded job security for guest lecturers working since years 2016-17. He added that the issue would be raised before the government.
