BJP members demand CMC chief's resignation

Last Updated 24 February 2018, 18:35 IST

Six members of BJP in the CMC demanded the resignation of CMC president Kaveramma Somanna stating that she has failed to solve the problems of the town.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, member P D Ponnappa said that no development work has taken place in the town in the last four years. "Does development mean only a private bus stand and a market?" he questioned.

"The president should have taken everybody into confidence and given importance to the overall development of the town. She has been taking only four members into confidence and dancing to their tunes," he alleged.

Stating that the resolutions taken during the CMC meetings are later changed, Ponnappa said that the president does not have any idea about the concept of development.

Standing committee

Stating that the term of standing committee chief expired on January 30, he said that the president called a meeting in this regard on February 17 and February 21, but did not refer to the issue. "Fear of losing power if someone is elected seems to be the reason for the same," he alleged.

Ponnappa also said that a sum of only Rs 5 lakh is given to every ward for development works. "What works can be taken up with Rs 5 lakh," he asked and added that it is very difficult to answer the questions of the citizens.

Members Unnikrishna, Anitha Poovaiah and Savitha Prakash too were present.
