'Pedal for vision' cyclothon held in city

A large number of men and women participated enthusiastically in the cyclothon organised as part of TechNIEks 2018, the national-level annual techno-cultural fest of the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) in the city on Sunday.

The event was to support the visually impaired under the theme 'Pedal for vision'. The entire cyclothon covered a total distance of 25 km starting from the golden jubilee block of National Institute of Engineering.

Around 100 men and women took part actively in the event which received an overwhelming response from people across different age groups in the city.

Somanna, the senior security guard of the college, flagged off the event at 6.15 am amidst a lot of excitement and enthusiasm amongst the participants.

The 25 km cyclothon passed through Silk factory, Five Light Circle, RTO circle, Ramaswamy Circle, Fire Brigade, Dr Padma Circle, Kukkarahalli Lake, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Chittaranjan Palace, Aishwarya Petrol Bunk, Sangam Circle, Kanakadasa Circle, Aditya Circle, Akkamahadevi Road, Sterling Theatre and reached NIE college.

The first participant completed the entire route in 47 minutes and secured first place. By 7.40 am all the participants had completed the cyclothon.

Madhukumar H M secured the first place by finishing the circuit in 47 minutes. Kamal Raj N secured second place and Kiran Raju came third.

Vijayalakshmi R A, completed the cyclothon in one hour and 31 minutes among the women participants. Part of the funds raised was utilised to provide facilities at Government School for the Blind, Bannimantap.
