The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will field candidates in 100 constituencies in the upcoming Assembly polls, the party's election campaign committee decided on Thursday.
"It was unanimously decided that the party will contest at least 100 seats as there are hundreds of aspirants who have applied for tickets," NCP Karnataka convenor Prakash K More said in a statement.
The NCP is already in talks with the JD(S) for a pre-poll alliance, with Pawar himself having initiated discussions with JD(S) leaders H D Kumaraswamy and PGR Sindhia.
It was also decided to appoint party leaders Tilak R Nambiar, Ashok Jawali and S A Shaikh as spokespersons of NCP, Karnataka.
