A group of lake guardians have written to Governor Vajubhai Vala asking him not to give assent for the proposal to transfer lakes to the Minor Irrigation Department.

The state government is planning to bring all water bodies under a single authority since it is now scattered across the BBMP, BDA and Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority.

The opposition follows the government's decision to handover 902 acres of lake bodies, in-principle, to the department. This includes Bengaluru's 210 water bodies.
