The office of the Deputy Commissioner and the offices of 10 other government departments are all set to move into a new district office complex, which mirrors the architecture of Lalitha Mahal Palace.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will dedicate the new complex constructed on German Press premises, off Mysuru-Bannur Road, in the city, on Saturday. The works on the basement, ground, first and second floors have been completed under the first phase and out of 28 departments, 11 will be shifted to the new building immediately after inauguration.

The new building is being constructed on 4.25 acres of land and the built-up area is 22,000 sq ft. Public Works Department (PWD) Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Ramakrishna said, "The building has two auditoriums and two meeting halls. The first phase works, which is taken up at a cost of Rs 59 crore, has been completed. Parking facility has been provided in the basement and 170 light motor vehicles can be parked at a time, he said.

While two departments will be housed on the ground floor, office of the Deputy Commissioner and the DC Court will be on the first floor. Similarly, eight department offices will be housed on the second floor. The new structure has separate toilets for men and women and ramp for physically challenged people.

The new structure has been provided with all basic facilities necessary for officials and the people. Three lifts have been provided for the building. While one lift is spared for the public, the other two will be used by the officials and the employees. The AEE informed that the second phase of works, planned at a cost of Rs 36 crore, will be taken up after the state government's approval.

Pune-based Shirke Construction, which constructed the Vikasa Soudha in Bengaluru and Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, have built the new structure. The works were commenced in December 2016 and has been completed in 14 months.
