Suspect stabs police officers in escape bid, shot in leg

A police officer and a constable were attacked by a fleeing suspect, early Monday morning, when the police team went to the suspect's house to arrest him in connection with a case registered in Vijayapura.  

Police said that acting on a tip-off, they went to accused Yunus Patel's house to arrest him.

Sub-inspector Arif fired his pistol into the air to scare Patel.

But Yunus Patel stabbed the sub-inspector and constable Madan Shetty with a knife, in a bid to escape.      

At this point, sub-inspector Arif shot Yunus Patel in the left leg to stop him from fleeing.  

All three people injured in the incident are being treated in hospital according to Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Kumar R Jain.
