BJP candidates' selection not yet final, says DVS

Last Updated 06 April 2018, 14:02 IST

"Selection of the candidates for the two legislative assembly constituencies of the district is not yet done. The BJP workers do not need to have any speculations in this regard," said Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation, D V Sadananda Gowda.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 'Navashakti Samavesha', organised by the district BJP, at Parimala Mangala Vihara in Gonikoppa, on Saturday.

He said that some people have been creating confusion in the party by posing themselves as candidates. "It is true that everyone has a right to demand a ticket to contest in the elections. But the decision of the High Command is final. Workers should be free of any kind of ambiguity and should strive towards the victory of the party."

He also said that the countdown for the fall of Congress in Karnataka has begun.

"After squandering away the treasury, the state government is in a foundation stone-laying spree. The Central government's schemes are portrayed as the state government's achievements, by pasting portrait of the chief minister. The chief minister is not quoting official figures regarding the Central government's grants to the state."

MLA K G Bopaiah said that workers are the asset of the party. Victory is not far if every worker puts his heart and soul into his work. It is next to impossible to break the strong fortress of BJP in the district. Curiosity about the election is increasing. Senior leaders of the Congress party themselves are criticising the malfunctioning of the Congress-led state government.

Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan said that the children of MLAs of the Congress are indulging in hooliganism. Law and order have been in an utter breakdown. Atrocities on women are on the rise.

"The state government, which claims to have provided crores of rupees towards the development of the district has given only Rs 48 crores so far. When BJP was in power, it had provided a grant of Rs 200 crores."

He pointed out that despite being a Kodava, he was elected twice from his constituency, even though Somvarpet has a majority of voters from the Gowda community. Similarly, even though there is a large number of Kodavas in Virajpet, K G Bopaiah has been elected from the constituency. But because of the fear of losing, some miscreants have been spreading cheap propaganda based on caste politics. The caste-based politics will not work in the upcoming assembly elections in Kodagu, he said.

MLC Sunil Subramani took a dig at the state government, saying that the celebration of Tipu Jayanti was the greatest contribution of the Congress to the district.

Kodagu district BJP in-charge Ranjit said that BJP has grown stronger after Tripura elections. Our next motto is to bring BJP back to power in the state.
