Come April 1, obtaining building plan approval will be a click away for residents of Bengaluru.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) launched its ambitious Automatic Building Plan Approval System (ABPS) on Monday.

Under the ABPS, owners and architects will be able to submit the application to obtain approval for the building plan, commencement certificate and occupancy certificate online.

The system will enable the applicants to track the status of their application through SMSes and email alerts.

"There are five stages in the plan approval process. The file goes through an assistant director, deputy director, joint director, special commissioner and finally, it reaches the commissioner. Work will be done within 30 days," said BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad

"We have fixed specific timelines for the plan to be cleared at each level. If it is not adhered to, the system will lock and go to the next level. Citizens will also receive SMSes and email alerts if clarification is required," Prasad added.

While launching the system, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George said, "ABPS will be available for sites above the 40X60 dimension."
