Last Updated 21 March 2018, 19:28 IST

Police resorted to lathi charge on a Congress worker, who tried to waylay the police convoy of AICC President Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Ullal Dargah, on Tuesday night.

Enraged over the incident, Congress leaders demanded suspension of the police personnel who wielded lathi at the Congress worker.

Rahul Gandhi visited Dargah late on Tuesday night. Thousands of Congress workers were waiting for him at Kallapu Junction. As the Congress chief's vehicle arrived, many tried to meet him and waylaid a police convoy. As the Congress workers moved ahead, the police tried to stop the two-wheelers of the Congress workers.

Action against police

The Congress workers demanded action against the police.

Even Minister U T Khader demanded action against police personnel who had assaulted the Congress workers. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in turn directed City Police Commissioner T R Suresh to verify it.

Senior police officer said that the incident is being verified. "We are not sure who is at fault. None of the police personnel have been suspended so far. Suitable action would be taken after verifying it," he said.
