A 30-year-old man has been arrested and sent to jail for forcing a woman to drink alcohol and then raping her at his home in Southeast Bengaluru earlier this month.

The suspect is the website manager at a leading fashion e-commerce company.

Ravi Ranjan, a native of Kanpur, UP, was arrested by the HSR Layout on a complaint filed by the woman, who hails from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on March 16. The incident is said to have occurred on the intervening night of March 11 and 12.

According to the victim, she had gone to Halasuru on March 11 to visit a friend named  Roshni Sujanani. The same night, another friend Himanshu Bhat called her up and invited her to the birthday party of  his brother-in-law Aman Pant at Hoot Cafe  and Brewery at Kaikondrahalli on Sarjapur Main Road. She accepted the invitation.

'Was forced to drink'

At the party, she said, she met Ranjan, a friend of  Himanshu's. Everyone consumed alcohol in the party and she was also forced to drink.

After some time,  Pant fell down and injured himself. Himanshu,  along with  his sister Pooja Bhat, took Pant to a hospital.

The victim and  Ranjan,  however, stayed put  in the restaurant. When she called him to the hospital, he refused. Later, he forced her to consume more alcohol, took her by cab to his home and raped her, she stated in the complaint.
