Kasabapet police have filed an FIR against MP Pralhad Joshi on Saturday, in connection with his statement that weapons were collected in masjids.

On Thursday, Mr Joshi had met the family of Gurusiddappa Ambiger, who was murdered in a group clash, at Gousiya Nagar in Old Hubballi, and had stated that weapons were allegedly stored in masjids and police have to search them. He had also stated that anti-social and illegal activities were rampant in the area, and activities in the limits of Kasabapet police station limits were like that of in Pakistan

Residents of Old Hubballi, mutavallis of different masjids and Congress leaders had staged a protest on Friday, demanding action against Mr Joshi, charging that he tried to damage communal harmony and to give a communal touch to the murder.

Based on the complaint given by one Mahammad Hanif Jopadi of Gousiya Town, Kasabapet police have filed the FIR against Mr Joshi, under IPC sections 153A and 298. Giving a provoking statement to damage peace and harmony and hurting the sentiments of Muslims is mentioned as the allegation in the FIR.
