Beauty pageant for married women

Last updated: 19 May, 2010

Mrs Karnataka is no ordinary beauty pageant featuring young women in skimpy clothes – it is extraordinary.

All smiles Tina Ponappa and Tara.

It is a  contest specially organised for married woman. “We believe that they should be recognised for their ability to integrate intellect, homemaking skills and beauty. Our focus is also on cultural identity and pride in womanhood as exemplified by well-known personalities in the field of corporate and public life,” said the organisers of the beauty pageant for married women to be held in the City shortly.

Tara, the well-known award-winning actress along with Tina Ponnapa, a South Indian star released the applications for the beauty pageant which specially targets women between the ages of 21 and 35 who are married.

“Life doesn't end for a woman when she gets married and has children. In fact there is a whole world waiting to be discovered. I am happy to be part of a pageant that celebrates a woman's success and achievements inside the home,” said Tara.

“A Mrs. Karnataka Pageant contestant is a confident, intelligent, successful and beautiful woman of today. Even if she is a mother of one, two or three children and if she feels that she  has what it takes to go on the modelling ramp, her chance is right here,” enthused Tina, adding, “women today are ambitious and talented. Even if they get married early and come from conservative homes, this pageant will be a good platform for them to showcase their looks and style without stepping out of character. Since they will only wear traditional clothes like the sari, I don't foresee anyone objecting to their participation in the pageant.”

The participants will also support the cause of water conservation and take part in a range of talent based competitions.
Although it was initially difficult to get sponsorship, organisers hope that the pageant will become an annual event with sufficient support and encouragement shown by the community.

The contest will be held on May 30 at the Indo-Asian Group of Institutes, Kalyan Nagar, HRBR Layout. The last date for applications is May 23.
