Preparatory work on Metro UG corridor begins

Last Updated 31 May 2010, 19:02 IST

The Minsk Square UG station is part of the UG-2 corridor running from Chinnaswamy Cricket stadium to Magadi Road excluding Majestic .

Actual excavation will only begin by the year end (December), after tunnel boring machines (TBM) arrive from Japan. “We have placed barricades and other equipment at the Police Parade grounds, opposite BRV armoury. The underground ramp for the Minsk Square will begin at the grounds, while entry/exit point with air ventilation points will be located on the land adjacent to the HAL corporate office,” said a BMRCL engineer.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security), Praveen Sood, said a traffic diversion plan has been prepared a year ago and will be implemented as soon as the BMRCL announces the commencement of the earth excavation work.

The construction of a three-level concourse to connect the M G Road station at the land where Plaza theatre was once located, will begin after two or three months. The BMRCL engineers added that design changes/modifications are being done to the original plan.
“The station will be operational (December 2010) without the concourse. The design of the structure is being modified to accommodate a memorial to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, as the station will be bear his name. The concourse could be completed by May or June 2011” said BMRCL engineers.
