Kher to bring alive Hitler in his last days

This issue will be explored in a new film to be made in both Hindi and English which will see award-winning actor Anupam Kher portraying the role of the “Fuhrer” hiding in the bunker as his dream of Aryan supremacy crumbled around him.

Titled “Dear Friend Hitler”, the film will portray Hitler’s relationships with his close associates, those he loved, those who betrayed him and those who stood by him till the end, according to debutant director Rakesh Ranjan Kumar.

“It aims to take viewer close to the enigmatic personality that Hitler was and give a glimpse into his insecurities, his charisma, his paranoia and his sheer genius,” says Kumar. “This is a film of ironies of love unrealised, of betrayal from his most trusted ones and his denial of it,” he explains.

The director, aware that the title might send signals that he is a sympathizer of one of the most hated persons in world history, justifies it by saying that Mahatma Gandhi had written two letters to Hitler addressing him as “dear friend”.

The film will also depict the struggle for survival of the Indian Legion soldiers owing allegiance to Subhash Chandra Bose who were marooned in Germany in those times.
“It will capture the tragic-yet-heroic descent of the mighty ruler and the shambles he left his ‘glorious Aryan nation’ in,” says Kumar about the film being produced by Anil K Sharma of Amrapali Media Vision.

Kher, who is preparing for the challenging role, says, “Even I agree that Hitler should be hated but this film will showcase his positive emotions  and his relations with the people close to him and those who were there for him till his fall.”

Braun’s character will be played by former Miss India Neha Dhupia. As a former student of history, she claims that she has started researching on her character.
