The minister was participating in a meeting attended by officials and villagers to discuss ways for developing the temple. Among the decisions taken during the meeting were: constructing a ‘rajagopura’ at the entrance of the temple, a shed to park the chariot and providing drinking water and toilet facilities for devotees and tourists.

Verbal duel over toilets

During the course of the meeting, an argument ensued between the minister and villagers over the construction of toilets.  While the district administration suggested the toilets be constructed near the police outpost outside the temple, villagers insisted the toilets to be constructed inside the temple premises saying tourists would continue to dirty the premises if not. They also demanded for sufficient supply of water.

After listening to the demands made by villagers, Khan assured that all their demands would be met. He also assured that complete support would be extended for conducting the ‘Lakshadeepotsava’ festival.

Legislator Bacchegowda pointed out that the walls of the temple were weakening and urged that part of the Rs 14-lakh funds sanctioned to the Tourism department be used for reconstructing the walls.

He also demanded for the setting up of a new police station in Nandi village and asked the district administration and Police department to take necessary steps in this regard. “Many tourists visit the temple and the frequency of crimes is slowly increasing.

Therefore, it setting up a police station is a pressing need,” he said. The villagers demanded the district administration to appoint a priest for the temple. Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer N Krishnappa, Additional DC G S Nayak, Tahsildhar Poornima, village heads G R Srinivasan, Murthy and Muniswamy were present.
