Bihar CM's chopper takes off with door open

Last Updated 03 July 2010, 16:56 IST

Earlier in the day, Nitish, as per the scheduled plan, boarded the chopper to visit the ancestral place of former Union minister Digvijay Singh in Gidhaur.  Nitish had gone there to pay tributes to the leader, who passed away in London last week.

Singh had gone to London along with a Commonwealth shooting team as the president of the National Rifle Association of India. On June 10, he suffered a heart attack and was admitted to St Thomas Hospital, where he again suffered a brain haemorrhage and died.

After consoling the bereaved family, Nitish left for Patna. Soon after the chopper took off, the pilot realised that one of the doors (on the side where Nitish was sitting) had inadvertently remained open. Immediately, the helicopter was landed and the door shut before taking off.

As the news of his narrow escape spread, several JD(U) leaders and a large contingent of media rushed to the State Hangar in Patna. But an unperturbed Nitish said: “There was some problem with the door of the helicopter.”
