Mayawati faces flak over remarks on Mahatma Gandhi
Lucknow, IANS:

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Maywati has come under severe criticism from opposition leaders for having made derogatory remarks about Mahatma Gandhi.

While addressing a meeting of MPs and legislators of her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) here Saturday, Mayawati called the Father of the Nation a "natakbaaz" (fake). She also distributed pamphlets condemning both Mahatma Gandhi and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi for being insincere about the improvement in socio-economic status of Dalits.

"Mayawati's attempt to run down the Father of the Nation will only prove counter-productive and she will have to pay for it," said state COngress spokesman Subodh Srivastava.

"This only reflects her frustration on account of her failure to keep her monopolistic control over Dalits. It is high time she realises that Dalits are not her private property and they are well aware to see and understand the difference between what Mahatma Gandhi did for them and what Mayawati was doing for them," he added.

Samajwadi Party state president Akhilesh Yadav said: "Mayawati's derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi are clearly a reflection of her having not only lost ground but even her balance."

Calling Mayawati's rant against Mahatma Gandhi "a shameful act", BJP spokesman Hriday Narain Dikshit said: "By terming whatever he did against untouchability as a drama, Mayawati has shown utter disrespect to the Father of the Nation."

Srivastava also condemned Mayawati's move to hold protest demonstrations June 19, which is Rahul Gandhi's birthday.

"Maybe she does not like the idea of a birthday being observed without forced collection of funds since she is so used to celebrating her own birthday solely to collect money and jewellery," he said.

It is a national shame. Central government should consider it as Anti-national, arrest her and dismiss her government. Mahatma Gandhi is the Father of the nation and if someone can be arrested for disrespect towards the national Flag. Then the same rule should apply for disrespecting the Father of the nation. Mayawathi is nothing better than Ajmal Kasab! She has lost the right to be a CM as she is a criminal now!

Pls study the background carefully, before making such comments. Her approach may be wrong, study the socio economic background and the community she hails from. The political disadvantage that she and the community faces. Any other minority in India is still better treated way better than her community, her community does not have missionary like machinary to help.

The people of UP should feel ashamed for having this junkee as their leader...It is time the poor and the lower caste know that nothing has changed for them by electing these and unfortunately this process is being happening in most of the States. Mahatma Gandhi does not need any more certificates from any body, least from a woman whose mind balance is zero. Being in the US, we know how today the world is realizing that the teaching and the principles of this GREAT MAN is the only order of the day. As Mr. Einstein has nobly said "IT IS VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT SUCH A MAN IN BLOOD AND FLESH WALKED ACROSS THIS CONTINENT" these are the true words and EVERY INDIAN SHOULD BE PROUD OF IT. Mahatma is no more with us, let his soul rest in peace forever...
