Sheep-rearing sop to cushion beef ban

Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamagi told reporters in Bangalore that the Government would provide loans to the tune of Rs 26,000 at six per cent interest to purchase sheep. Various subsidies would also be provided.

In order to improve the progeny of cow, the government would provide loans to the tune of Rs 70,000 for purchasing cows, he said.

Belamagi said the government would rehabilitate those directly affected by the anti-cow slaughter legislation based on the model followed in other states where cow slaughter has already been banned.

Presently, Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill-2010, passed by the legislature has been referred to the President for consideration by the Governor.
