A piquant situation arose on Tuesday when a handful of party activists, whose allegiance could not be ascertained, hurled abuses, showed slippers to Nitish Kumar and chanted slogans in favour of Narendra Modi when the Bihar chief minister was addressing an election rally at Warsaliganj in Nawada.

The local police immediately swung into action and detained more than 30 such disgruntled elements, who also shouted “Modi, Modi” before being taken into custody.

Nitish was campaigning for his party nominee from Warsaliganj which incidentally comes under the Nawada Lok Sabha constituency represented by controversial BJP leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh. Since Giriraj has been at the forefront in using diatribe against Nitish for the last couple of years, the JD (U) accused the BJP of infiltrating its men into Nitish’s rally to show utter disrespect towards the leader of grand alliance.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged at Bhabua against senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi for making offers to distribute colour TV sets to poor and saris to women from weaker sections.

An unrepentant Modi said he would utter such things one thousand times. “If my government comes to power, I will distribute colour TV sets, saris and dhotis among poor,” Modi said.
