Cong showing love for armed forces with eye on polls: Pralhad Joshi

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday accused the Congress party of making just a show of its love for the armed forces with an eye on polls and asked why did it not implement the one-rank-one-pension plan if it cared for them.

Dubbing INC as an acronym for the "Indian National Confusion", Joshi, also the BJP's Uttarakhand election in-charge, said it becomes a party of Hindus whenever convenient and a lover of the armed forces when the polls are round the corner.

Goons roamed freely and there were riots in UP when SP was in power: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said while the BJP has ensured good law and order as well as development in Uttar Pradesh, goons used to roam freely and there were riots when the Samajwadi Party was in power.

He also said that now goons and the mafia do not get protection and "bulldozers are run over their illegal properties".

Manipur: BJP workers burn effigies, ransack party offices to protest ticket disbursal

Angry BJP workers of Manipur on Sunday burnt effigies of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the state unit president Sharda Devi as well as flags, even as they ransacked local offices and shouted slogans against the ruling party’s list of assembly poll candidates which featured defectors from the Congress ignoring many loyalists.

Security was beefed up at all BJP offices throughout the state following the violence which erupted after the candidate list was announced, official sources said.

Two Muslim women performed 'aarti' of BJP president J P Nadda here as he undertook a door-to-door campaign for the party on Sunday in Firozabad. Firozabad goes to polls in the third phase on February 20.

SC to consider listing PIL seeking to debar persons charged with serious offences

Days ahead of assemblypollsin five states, the Supreme Court has agreed to consider listing for hearing a 2020 PIL for debarring persons — against whom charges have been framed in serious offences — from contesting elections.

The plea said that out of 539 winners of the Lok Sabha election in 2019, as many as 233 (43 per cent) declared criminal cases against themselves. It said there was an increase of 109 per cent in the number of MPs with declared serious criminal cases since 2009, with one MP declaring 204 criminal cases against himself.
