Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday termed unfair the proposed visit of two Maharashtra ministers to Belagavi at a time when linguistic sentiments are running high over the Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary dispute and related developments.
The chief secretary has written a letter in this regard to his Maharashtra counterpart.
Bommai told reporters on Friday that Maharashtra ministers Chandrakant Patil and Shambhuraj Desai, and chairman of Maharashtra high-powered committee for the boundary dispute, Dhairyasheel Mane, were scheduled to meet the leaders of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti on December 6.
He said that it has been communicated in the letter by the chief secretary that the ministers should not visit Belagavi in the interest of both the states. If they visit, Karnataka will take necessary action like in earlier occasions.
Cases were filed in the past against Maharashtra ministers for breach of peace and law & order.
“We have heard that the Maharashtra chief minister has announced Rs 2,000 crore for meeting the water needs of Kannadigas from Jath in Sangli district, who are facing water scarcity for several years. We hope their problems are resolved,” Bommai said.
