Over 180 motorists were prosecuted by Delhi Police for drunk driving on Friday, which takes the total number of prosecutions to 2,182 since March 1.

“We surprised the city on Friday. May be people thought we will relax. A total of 181 more people were prosecuted for drunk driving in two hours,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

He also reiterated that they will continue efforts to make the city safe by continuous action against drunk driving and violations by commercial vehicles. “We will keep on surprising people of the national capital,” he added.

Police had initiated a campaign on March 1 to take action against drunk driving, speeding, driving without helmet, not using seat belt and other traffic offences.

In the first eight days, a total of 1,991 were fined for drunk driving.
