19 trafficked girls rescued

Nineteen girls and a seven-year-old boy were rescued from placement agencies in Shakurpur, north-west Delhi on Thursday night.

The Assam police was informed about trafficking of girls from Assam to Delhi by Om Pandey, a trafficker who was arrested few days ago.

They approached Delhi police and a rescue operation was organised. Ten girls within the age group of 14 to 18 years were rescued from  J Block and eight girls from a building in D Block.

During counselling the girls revealed that they were sexually abused and sold to people for Rs 36,000 as domestic help.

Seven of these girls were trafficked from Assam, six from West Bengal and five from Jharkhand. The seven-year-old boy disclosed that his mother had been sent to another city for work.
