Three foreigners, including an Afghan national who has lived in Pakistan as a refugee, have been arrested with 1.5 kg of heroin worth Rs 7 crore in the international market, police said.

Afghan nationals Farhad, 39, and Jabbar Khan, 60, and 34-year-old Nigerian Paulinus Asochukwu were held over information that Farhad supplied heroin to Nigerian nationals. Farhad was expected to supply heroin to Paulinus near Tilak Nagar Gurdwara.

“Farhad and Paulinus were apprehended with 1.5 kilos of heroin,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav. At the instance of Farhad, Jabbar was also arrested.

Farhad first came to India for medical treatment when he was eight-years-old.He again came to India and married an Afghan woman in Delhi. “Farhad has been staying in Delhi since then and provides assistance to Afghan nationals seeking medical treatment,” Yadav added.

Farhad was lured into drug trafficking by Jabbar. The recovered heroin was to be delivered to Paulinus on the direction of Jabbar. Jabbar’s family had migrated to Pakistan, where he lived as a refugee. He came to India in 2003 and started a textile business.

“Jabbar indulged in drug trafficking to meet business losses,” Yadav said. He used to procure heroin from Rajasthan. Jabbar was earlier arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau along with his associates in 2004 and they were convicted in the case.

He appealed against the conviction, but Delhi High Court dismissed it and asked him to surrender. Jabbar, however, planned to flee the country. “Narcotics Control Bureau has been informed about Jabbar’s arrest,” Yadav added.

Paulinus came to India on a business visa in March 2014. He started a business of garments, but suffered losses. He came in contact of Victor Bola G of Nigeria, who was residing at Tilak Nagar and started working on his direction.
