20 tonnes of waste removed from Cauvery

Volunteers from Yuva Brigade headed by Chakravarti Sulibele cleaned Cauvery river at Siddapur in Nelyahudikeri village on Friday.

Around 20 tonnes of garbage dumped into the river was removed.

Volunteers from Dharwad, Mysuru, Nanjanaguru, Kalburgi, Kushalnagar and Madikeri worked for 10 hours continuously.

Nelyahudikere gram panchayat officer Nanjundaswamy said that poultry merchants have been dumping waste into the river for a long time.

Siddapur gram panchayat officer Vishwanath said that people from about 500 houses near the banks of the river have also been dumping waste into the river.

Yuva brigade members Chandrashekhar, Chandru, SKDRDP members Varija, Bharat, GP member Dhanalakshmi and others took part in the river cleanliness drive.
