Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Care Centre at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in east Delhi.
The centre, expected to become a model for comprehensive management of obesity and lipid disorders, is scheduled to come up by 2013 at an estimated cost of Rs 22 crore.
Dikshit said Guru Teg Bahadur will become the first government hospital in the Capital to have an exclusive diabetes, endocrine and metabolic care centre.
“It will offer diagnostic technology with a modern fully equipped endocrine and metabolic laboratory as well as imaging and other specialised facilities,” added Dikshit.
She said the centre would address all aspects of diabetes care under one roof and prove to be a centre of excellence besides being a facility for research and data management to guide health policy in these areas.
The in-patient services at the new centre will include 30 diabetes speciality beds, an endocrine ward having 26 speciality beds and four intensive care beds. with state of the art equipment.
