To entice more visitors, especially women, a church in Taiwan has been built in the shape of Cinderella’s fabled glass slippers.
Over 320 tinted glass panels were used to build the 55-foot-tall high-heeled shoe. It was constructed by the local government of Taiwan’s Southwest Coast National Scenic Area in Ocean View Park, in the coastal province of Chiayi.
It took two months to build the church at a cost of $686,000. According to the BBC, it will be used primarily for weddings and photo shoots, but not for regular church services.
Its design is said to have been inspired by the story of a 24-year-old girl whose wedding was cancelled after her legs were amputated and who lived out her days in a church. In an interview with a New York magazine, a regional officer said that the features of the church include “chairs for lovers, maple leaves, biscuits and cakes.”
The church has garnered a lot of interest among many before its opening, with several people taking photographs in front of the building. It officially opened its doors to visitors on February 8, coinciding with the Chinese New Year.
