The Shimla police on Wednesday registered a case against yesteryear Bollywood actor Jeetendra for sexually assaulting his cousin in a hotel room in the hill town 47-years ago.

The actor's cousin, who is the complainant in the case, said she was sexually assaulted by Jeetendra in 1971 when she was just 18-years old.

Jeetendra, whose real name was Ravi Kapoor, was then about 28-years old. The complainant said Jeetendra is her father's sister son.

The 65-year old women claimed that Jeetendra had arranged for her to join him from New Delhi to Shimla on the sets of a film he was then shooting.

A hotel was booked where she stayed. The woman claimed that one night during their stay in the hotel, Jeetendra came to her room in an inebriated state.

He joined the twin beds and sexually assaulted her that night. The next morning, she said, the actor did not speak to her and asked his staff to buy her some clothes and send her back to Delhi.

Jeetendra's advocate has rubbished the allegations terming them frivolous and baseless.

The police will now ask the woman to record her statement before the local magistrate.

In fact, it was in February this year that the women had sent an email to Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police seeking registration of an FIR against Jeetendra for sexually assaulting her.

An FIR under section 354 of the IPC was registered on Wednesday at the Chotta Shimla police station.

The police said the woman has been asked to provide any evidence that she may have to establish her stay in the hotel.

The case against the actor will be probed as per the old provisions of the section 354 IPC in view of the law that was in existence in the year 1971 when the alleged crime took place.

The new amendments, which are far more stringent, will not come into effect.

The victim said it took her years to reveal her trauma and share the crime with the police after her parents passed away.
