Although that speed may not match up to some of the gasoline or even electric models in the market today, it’s impressive given a propulsion system that consists solely of air canisters.

Toyota Industries built the car to showcase compressed air’s suitability for providing short-term power, the firm said in a statement. Regrettably, it is very short term, given the Ku:Rin’s range of just 3.2 kilometres — although it raises an interesting possibility about the development of fly-wheel type boosters using compressed air to add power in an environmentally-friendly manner.
